Wyoming man seriously injured in farm accident

On Tuesday, July 11, at 10:24 a.m., the Jones County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call. The caller advised a 54-year-old man fell off a tractor, injuring his head. The address of the accident was 9203 75th Street in rural Wyoming. When law enforcement arrived on scene, they discovered a male subject had been run over and drug approximately 25 feet by a half loaded grain cart that was hooked to a tractor. The victim, Daniel Althoff of Wyoming, was standing in between the tractor and the grain cart that was filling with corn when the tractor started to move.

The caller was driving past the residence and saw the tractor and grain cart sitting in standing corn. The tractor and grain cart came to rest on the north side of the road. The caller stopped and discovered Althoff, who was injured, lying in the grass next to the grain bin.

First responders arrived on scene and requested a medical flight helicopter to respond to the scene. The flight was declined due to weather conditions. Althoff sustained serious injuries to his head and chest and was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids by Anamosa Area Ambulance.

Assisting the Jones County Sheriff’s Office at the scene were Midland Ambulance, Wyoming Fire Department, and Anamosa Area Ambulance.
