Wildcats sweep twinbill at Midland

Softball

     Maquoketa Valley’s softball team traveled to play Midland of Wyoming May 31 and swept a doubleheader, winning 16-5 and 19-16.

     MV jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first inning of the first game. Midland cut the margin to 7-5, but the Wildcats scored nine runs over the final three innings. MV had 18 hits, led by Maddy Anderegg, who was 4-for-5 with a double and three runs batted in. Rejji Smith and Maddie Lahr both went 3-for-4. Olivia Hoeger, Cassie Westhoff and Smith had two stolen bases each. Adrianna Supple hit a double. Macy Hoeger drove in two runs.

     Rylie Aldrich pitched a three-hitter to get the win.

     MV won a wild second game by scoring multiple runs in five of the seven innings. The Wildcats rallied from deficits of 10-6 and 14-11, and finished with 16 hits. Peyton Ries was 4-for-5 with two doubles. Lahr was 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Smith went 3-for-5 with a double. Brooke Elgin went 2-for-4. Taya Tucker had two RBIs and two stolen bases. Allie Knipper, Payton Beaman and Aldrich shared pitching duties, with Beaman getting the win.

 

Baseball

     Jesup and Midland provided ample competition for the Maquoketa Valley baseball team in recent action.

     On May 30, the Wildcats played host to Jesup in a single game, and lost 6-2. MV was held to four hits. Tyson Tucker and Brock Hillers drove in the MV runs.

     Maquoketa Valley traveled to play Midland of Wyoming May 31 in a doubleheader, and split the two games, losing 1-0 and winning 6-0. Tucker pitched a three-hitter with seven strikeouts in the first game, but took the loss, as MV was held to one hit.

     Cole Willenbring pitched a gem in the second game, a four-hit shutout with seven strikeouts and one walk. MV scored all six of its runs in the fourth inning, capped by Tucker’s three-run homer. Tucker finished 3-for-4, including a double. Trevor Elgin and Brock Hillers also doubled in the game; Hillers finished with two RBIs.
