VITA program in need of volunteers

Letter to the Editor

To the Editor,

As I enter my second year volunteering with Jones County Volunteer Center and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, I want to reach out to my fellow community members. I want to share with you how satisfying it is to engage in such a volunteer opportunity.

We’re not just preparing taxes, we are assisting low income individuals and families to sustain financial well being. While getting taxes prepared can cost upwards of $100 or more, many families cannot afford the commitment. However, with our VITA program, the preparation is free!

Each year the program grows rapidly. We are excited to continue to offer this program, but this is where you, the reader, come in. as we continue to grow, we continue to need help from more volunteers.

More and more people are reaching out to us for help each year and we just cannot keep up. Therefore, if you have any interest in numbers, like working with people, have any skill or no skill in the area but just want to help, please contact the Jones County Volunteer Center for further information. Training is available and signing up is easy to do!

Please call Amy at 319-560-0811 for more information.

Sincerely,

Treva Helgens Guyer
