Vision to Learn coming to Monticello schools

The public is invited to a sit visit at Shannon Elementary School in Monticello on Wednesday, April 12, where the Vision to Learn Mobile Clinic will be providing free eye exams to students.

Vision to Learn is a non-profit organization that helps overcome barriers to vision care for children by bringing a mobile clinic to the schools and providing free eye exams and glasses to the students.

In 2016, the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque (CFGD) partnered with Vision to Learn to pilot a mobile vision clinic aimed at improving kids’ vision to help them succeed in school. During the 2016-17 school year, Vision to Learn has been expanded to serve 45 schools in seven different counties. This program is made possible through partnerships with Vision to Learn, Theisen’s Home.Farm.Auto, and Klauer Optical Co., and the CFGD.

Students have been identified for an exam on this mobile clinic based on public school screenings, and those children requiring prescriptions will each receive two free pairs of glasses.

The open house at Shannon School will be from 1-2 p.m. Shannon is located at 321 W. South St. in Monticello. Screenings will also be done at Carpenter Elementary School on Thursday, April 6. That event is not open to the public.

To RSVP for the site visit at Shannon School, contact Sherri Hunt at jccf@dbqfoundation.org by Monday, April 10.
