Upkeep of Oakwood Cemetery needs to be addressed

Letter to the Editor

To the Editor,

Monticello, a town that our citizens should be proud to live in. But recently when visiting Oakwood Cemetery, I was ashamed to see what has happened to our once-beautiful cemetery. Have you thought the same thing? What would friends and out-of-towners who visit the cemetery think? Once the grounds were meticulously well kept and you were appreciative of all of the work that it takes to make it that way. Oh, I know… all the excuses including the rain and the hot weather have deterred the work to be done, but has it not rained and been hot in past years? That did not stop the work from being done then. It does take a lot of work and commitment to keep the cemetery looking its best. There is no doubt about that. But that is the city’s job and they pay workers to do a job that is well done.

I encourage you to contact the city, cemetery board, or those who supervised the upkeep of the cemetery to voice your opinion regarding the job that has been done. After all, this is not only for those who visit the cemetery, but a tribute to those who have passed away.

     I am a concerned VET.
