Thank you, Janet Fisher

Letter to the Editor

To the Editor,

Jones County has lost a real patriot, the kind of unheralded, even unknown, patriot who does the real work of a citizen-based democracy. Janet Fisher showed up and worked. Even as her body fought cancer, she showed up and worked. Janet didn’t mind the cold November weather as she spent countless hours walking door-to-door in different parts of the county, encouraging people to get out and vote. Knocking on over a thousand doors, she engaged people with her warm, easy-going manner explaining why it was important to her to take part in the decision-making process that is so essentially American. She encouraged others to join her in voicing their beliefs at the polls. Janet enjoyed talking politics and knew what she was talking about, but she also knew that talk was not enough. Janet was a worker, and she will be missed.
