Each month, Monticello High School nominates a student who exhibits positive behavior, as part of an initiative called PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports). The students support the school’s characteristics of Respect, Responsibility, Caring, Safety, and Integrity.

Monticello High School junior, Logan, Fleming, was named Student of the Month for September.

Among Fleming’s many accolades, the reasons behind this honor include: showing respect, responsibility, caring, and integrity on a constant basis. Helping his fellow students when they need help. Helping a teacher, Mrs. (Chelsea) Sandin, during lunch every day. Befriending other students, and asking them to join his lunch table.

Fleming said he knew about the honor after his mother received an e-mail from the school.

“It feels really good because I’ve never had something like this happen to me before,” he said. “I’m usually the quiet one at school.”

Fleming said whenever another student appears to be having a bad day, he reaches out to them, talks to them to help brighten their day.

In one of his classes, he assists a student confined to a wheelchair by bringing that student classroom materials as they’re handed out.

“I just like to meet new students and get to know other people,” Fleming said of inviting others to join him at lunch.

His positive attitude extends to his academics, too. Fleming said he loves everything about high school.

“I just like to learn,” he said.

His favorite subject is biology because he likes to learn about new things associated with the planets and animals.

“I want to know what’s out there,” he said.

Fleming said he does not have a least favorite subject.

In his spare time, he spends time with his friends playing video games and roller-skating.

Fleming’s parents are Staci and Cris Bartels of Monticello.
