Smith nets awards

     Madison Smith, granddaughter of Connie Edwards of Monticello, reaped several awards as a senior with the Ballard High School girls basketball team this past season.

     Smith, a senior guard, was voted third team all-state by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association. She also was named to the first team in the Raccoon River Conference, and made the Class 4A All-Central Division team.

     Smith was second in the state in Class 4A in assists, with 136. She averaged 7.3 points per game, and had 68 steals and 12 blocks in 21 games.

MV to host

3-on-3 tourney

     The Maquoketa Valley Basketball Winter Jam 3-on-3 tournament will be held Saturday, April 1 at Maquoketa Valley middle school and high school in Delhi.

     The tournament is for boys and girls teams in grades 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8. Entry fee is $45 per team, and registration is due March 29.
