Sister Donna Mae celebrates Diamond Jubilee

     A Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration from Monticello is celebrating her Diamond Jubilee, marking 60 years of vowed religious life.

     Sister Donna Mae (Leona) Venteicher was born in Willey, Iowa, and ministered as a homemaker in Milford and Bellevue in Iowa and St. Rose Convent in La Crosse, Wis. from 1957-60. She then became food service manager at Sacred Heart Hospital (known as Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center) in Idaho Falls, Idaho, going on to serve in the same capacity at St. Anthony Regional Hospital & Nursing Home in Carroll, Iowa, from 1963-73; and in Des Moines, Iowa, for the following year.

     She then achieved a degree in healthcare administration from Des Moines Area Community College and, from 1975-96, ministered as a nursing home administrator for two facilities in the Fort Madison, Iowa, area (serving also as long-term care administrator for Inhance Corp Senior Home).

     Sister Donna Mae then moved to Monticello where she served as long-term care administrator at Monticello Health Center until retiring in 2004 and becoming a mobile home park manager there.

     From 2011-12, Sister Donna Mae ministered at Prairiewoods Franciscan Spirituality Center, Hiawatha, Iowa, as interim co-director.

     Sister Donna serves two mobile home parks in Monticello today.

     A jubilee celebration was held at St. Rose Convent on May 5.
