Sheriff's Report

     A one-vehicle accident took place on Sept. 23 at 8:45 a.m. on 215th Avenue. Jane Ann Hilton, 61, of Martelle, was driving a 2001 Ford Ranger northbound when she hit a series of bumps in the gravel road. She lost control when her vehicle began to fishtail to the left and right. Hilton entered the ditch, and her vehicle was overturned. It came to rest on the driver’s side. Hilton was extracted from her vehicle by Jones County Sheriff’s Deputy Sean Snyder. She sustained minor injuries, and didn’t wish to be transported to a hospital. Hilton’s vehicle sustained approximately $8,000 in damages.

     A car versus deer accident took place on Sept. 22 at 8:46 p.m. on Highway 151. Hai Phuong Nguyen, 48, of Cedar Rapids was driving a 2006 Lexus GS3 when he encountered a deer in the roadway. No injuries were reported. Nguyen’s vehicle sustained approximately $2,500 in damages.

     A two-vehicle accident took place on Sept. 22 at 12:55 p.m. on Highway 136. Bruce Lee Ferguson, 51, of De Witt, was driving a 2007 Harley-Davidson Ultra Classic as he slowed down to turn right onto County Road E-17. When he hit his brakes, they locked up, causing him to lose control and wreck his motorcycle. Bradley James McKim, 31, of Ely, was driving a 2013 Harley FLHX. McKim locked up his brakes to avoid Ferguson as it wrecked in front of him. McKim slid into the ditch. Ferguson had minor injuries (road rash), but refused transportation to a hospital. McKim also had minor injuries and was transported by Cascade Ambulance to Jones Regional Medical Center. Ferguson’s vehicle sustained approximately $300 in damages. McKim’s vehicle sustained approximately $15,000 in damages.

     A one-vehicle accident took place on Sept. 22 at 7:45 a.m. on County Road X-64. Shelby Lynn Minnaert, 21, of Oxford Junction, was driving a 2007 Chevy Equinox when she fell asleep at the wheel. Minnaert was driving eastbound when she crossed the centerline and hit the guardrail on a bridge multiple times. Her vehicle came to rest in the middle of the roadway. No injuries were reported. Minnaert’s vehicle sustained approximately $8,000 in damages. There was $2,000 in damages to the guardrail on a county-owned bridge.

     A two-vehicle accident took place on Sept. 26 at 6:17 p.m. on Green Road between Morley and Olin. Jeff Allen Newell, 36, of Olin, was driving a 2003 Ford Explorer westbound, driving directly into the sun. As he approached the crest of a hill, he came into contact with Mick Allen Jones, 25, of Stanwood, driving a 1994 Toyota CST. Jones was driving eastbound. Both vehicles attempted to miss one another to prevent a head-on collision. Jones had minor injuries, and his vehicle sustained approximately $5,000 in damages. Newell was uninjured, and his vehicle sustained approximately $5,000 in damages. Newell was also cited for no insurance and driving on wrong side of two-way highway.

     A car versus deer accident took place on Sept. 27 at 10:26 p.m. on Highway 64. Leslie Earl Kuhl, 60, of Davenport was driving a 2015 GMC Sierra when he encountered a deer in the roadway. No injuries were reported. Kuhl’s vehicle sustained approximately $10,000 in damages.

     A two-vehicle accident took place on Sept. 27 at 4:35 p.m. on 170th Street. Christopher Michael Meade, 40, of Onslow, was driving a 1995 West Conventional dump truck westbound after he stopped at an intersection. Shelaine Marie Debaene, 32, of Davenport, was driving a 2015 Ford Escape, heading north. Meade did not see Debaene as he entered the intersection in front of her. Debaene, who had the right-of-way, struck Meade. Meade was uninjured. Debaene and two of her passengers Aaron Diaz, 42, and Owen Diaz, 1, were all transported by Reiff Ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Dubuque for their injuries. Meade’s vehicle sustained approximately $3,000 in damages. Debaene’s vehicle sustained approximately $15,000 in damages.
