Sheriff's Report

     A one-vehicle accident took place on June 1 at 7 p.m. on Highway 64. Jason Ray Benson, 61, of Mechanicsville, was driving a 1997 Chevy Cavalier when he lost control and entered the south ditch. The accident was caused by Benson’s “extremely low blood sugar.” No injuries were reported. Benson’s vehicle sustained approximately $2,000 in damages.

     A car versus deer accident took place on June 1 at 8 p.m. on Highway 151. Blade Michael McQuiggin, 31, of Dubuque, was driving a 2006 Mazda Speed 6 when he encountered a deer on the roadway. No injuries were reported. McQuiggin’s vehicle sustained approximately $3,000 in damages.

     A car versus deer accident took place on June 3 at 12:08 p.m. on Highway 151. Crystal M. Harper, 36, of Omaha, Neb., was driving a 2017 Kia Rio when she encountered a deer on the roadway. No injuries were reported. Harper’s vehicle sustained approximately $8,000 in damages.

     A car versus deer accident took place on June 4 at 12:46 p.m. on Highway 151. Nicholas John Herber, 17, of Dubuque, was driving a 2008 Nissan Altima when he encountered a deer on the roadway. No injuries were reported. Herber’s vehicle sustained approximately $10,000 in damages.

     A car versus deer accident took place on June 5 at 12:50 a.m. on Highway 151. A passing motorist reported the accident. When the Sheriff’s Deputy arrived on scene, the driver could not be located. A family member later contacted law enforcement. Kara Alverson, 21, of Cedar Rapids, was driving a 2010 Mercury Milan Premier when she encountered a deer on the roadway. No injuries were reported. Alverson’s vehicle sustained approximately $5,000 in damages.
