Sheehy earns spot at Drake Relays

MAQUOKETA VALLEY RECAP

Girls track

Senior Ali Sheehy’s throw of 127-foot-0 in discus competition at the West Delaware Invitational April 20 was enough to qualify her for the Drake Relays, representing Maquoketa Valley.

“Ali has worked really hard to get where she is now, and puts in a great deal of time on technique,” Maquoketa Valley coach Creig Dunlap said. “Over the past three seasons, Ali has not had the attention she deserves, even after she qualified for the state meet as a junior.”

Sheehy’s throw was good for first place, and was the highlight of the Wildcats’ efforts at West Delaware, where the team tied for 13th place with 16 points.

Earlier, the Wildcats took seventh place out of 14 teams at their own Wildcat Invitational April 17 in Delhi, scoring 28 points.

Sheehy won the discus with a throw of 126-foot-10. MV also had a couple of fourth place finishes, in the distance medley and shuttle hurdle relays.
