Sharks qualify for state meet, hold banquet

     Several Monticello swimmers, who are members of the Metro Area Cedar Rapids (MACR) Sharks swimming team, qualified to compete at the State YMCA Swimming Meet as a result of sectional competition Feb. 11 at the YMCA in Cedar Rapids.

     A list of qualifiers from Monticello follows. In relays, only those swimmers who practice in Monticello are listed.

INDIVIDUALS

     Girls 13-14 – Maci Boffeli, 50 free, 100 free, 100 breast. Kelsey Scofield, 50 free, 100 free, 200 breast.

     Boys 15-21 – Hunter Kramer, 50 free, 100 free, 100 back. Alex Rodriquez, 100 breast.

RELAYS

     Boys 11-12 – 200 medley (Brock Westphal, Harrison Ahlrichs); 200 free (Brock Westphal).

     Boys 13-14 – 200 medley (Connor Hynick, Sullivan Flynn, Dylan Ponder); 200 free (Sullivan Flynn, Dylan Ponder, Connor Hynick).

     Girls 13-14 – 200 medley (Kelsey Scofield, Maci Boffeli, Karle Kramer); 200 free relay (Maci Boffeli, Karle Kramer, Kelsey Scofield).

     Boys 15-21 – 200 medley (Hunter Kramer); 200 free (Hunter Kramer),

     Girls 15-21 – 200 medley (Rylee Bauer).

Team banquet

     In addition, the team held a banquet Feb. 13 at the Knights of Columbus in Marion, at which several Monticello swimmers received awards.

     Seven-year Award: Rylee Bauer, Kelsey Scofield.

     Core Value Award (Respect, Responsibility, Honesty, Caring): Sullivan Flynn.

     Girls’ Swimmer of the Year: Maci Boffeli.

     Time Drop Awards: Girls 11-12, Maddie Fischer; Boys 11-12, Reece Drew and Brock Westphal; Boys 13-14, Jacob Miller, Connor Hynick and Dylan Ponder; Girls 15-21, Rylee Bauer and Maddie Stadtmueller; Boys 15-21, Alex Rodriquez.

     The season began in November and ends with a state meet in Marshalltown March 3-4, and a regional meet in Des Moines March 17-18.

     The Sharks train three days a week at Camp Courageous under coaches Bailey Strausser of Anamosa and Paul Brown of Cedar Rapids.
