Robert J. Devaney, 87, of Monticello, IA, died Friday, April 21, 2017, at Unity Point St. Luke’s Hospice in Cedar Rapids after a brief illness.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. Monday, April 24, at Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello where a Knights of Columbus Rosary will be recited at 6 pm.  Visitation will continue after 10:00 a.m. Tuesday morning at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Monticello.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 25, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Monticello with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Paul Baldwin will officiate.

Bob was born July 21, 1929, the son of Dorrance and Rita (May) Devaney.  Bob was united in marriage to Rosemary Decker on February 13, 1954, at St. Patrick’s Church in Garryowen.   He worked at the Post Office for five years and then began working at the Monticello State Bank where his career spanned 35 years.  Through the years he endeared many friends and clients with his contagious smile and witty sense of humor.

Bob enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, boating, and being outdoors working on his yard and rose garden.  He was a railroad buff and an avid sports fan, especially rooting for the Cubs, Bears and Hawkeyes.  Bob was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1821 for over 66 years and was a 4th Degree Knight.  He was also a member of the Monticello Notary.

Survivors include 7 children: Beth (Darnell) Porter and Patrick Devaney (Kathy Adams), both of Monticello, Karen (Terry) Solomon of Manchester, Tom (Barb) Devaney of Anamosa, Mike (Doris) Devaney and Diane (Matt) Lund, both of Cedar Rapids, and Jeff (Holly) Devaney of Marion;  22 grandchildren: Julie (Matt) Lux of Cascade, Chris (Alyssa Rindy) Porter of Monticello, Scott Porter of Iowa City, Sage (Andy) Miller of Altoona, Dustin Wilson and Michaela Devaney, both of Monticello, Amanda and Ryan Solomon, both of Manchester, Ben (Ashley) Devaney of Davenport, Jordan Devaney of Urbandale, Holly and Mindy Salzbrenner of Ames, Justin and Kennedy Siefker of Anamosa, Carly, Jenna and Paige Jennings, all of Austin, TX, Kassidy Devaney and Vanessa Lund, both of Cedar Rapids, Colin and Haley Gorgen and Tara Devaney, all of Marion; 16 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters-in-law: Jean McClain and Sally (Jim) Hoerner, all of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Rosemary in 2012, a daughter, Mary Paula and a son, John in 2015, his brother Richard (Rita) Devaney.
