An upcoming trip to state competition, a home competition, and an individual honor highlights a busy stretch for the Monticello High School dance team.

The Panthers are headed to the Iowa State Dance and Drill Team Association team championships, and will compete Thursday, Nov. 30 at the Iowa Events Center.

Monticello will compete in Contemporary, Jazz and Pom at the state event.

Meanwhile, the Panthers also competed at the Fall Classic Nov. 25-26 at Monticello High School, taking first place in Pom, first in Jazz, and second in Contemporary. The team also received a Judges’ Choice Award for Pom.

For individual solos, Melissa Davis took first place, Kate Tuetken was second and Madisan Birt was fourth.

Also, MHS senior Shelbie Reyhons tried out for – and made – the All-Iowa Honor Dance Team. The daughter of Steve and Deb Reyhons, Shelbie will dance during a halftime performance at the State Boys Basketball Tournament with others from across the state who made the team.

The Panthers are coached by Amanda Hackney.
