MIDDLE SCHOOL RECAP

Wrestling

     The Monticello Middle School wrestling team closed its season with a Dec. 7 match at Wilton.

     Four members of the team went undefeated for the day. Chandler Weber, Mark Sunlin and Dylan Roher each had 2-0 records, while Ethan Long went 1-0.

 

Seventh-grade

     Three games in four days ended the season for the Monticello seventh-grade girls basketball team

     On Dec. 4, the Panthers traveled to rival Cascade for a game and a half. The Red team avenged an earlier-season loss to the Cougars, beating them 31-19. The White team lost 24-2.

     At home against Anamosa Dec. 5, the Red team rallied from a 13-3 deficit to win 35-28. The White team played a five-quarter game and lost 24-11.

     Monticello closed the season Dec. 7 at North Cedar, with the Red team winning 33-26 and the White losing 14-2.

     The Red team finished with a 9-3 record, and the White was 1-11.

     “I was very happy with the progress all the kids showed during the season,” coach Joe Steen said. “This was a nice group of kids to work with.”
