Panther middle school teams begin season

BOYS BASKETBALL RECAP

Eighth-grade team

     Two opponents have opened the schedule for the Monticello eighth-grade boys basketball team.

     The Panther teams opened the season with home games against Bellevue. The A team lost 56-21, with Caleb Sauser leading Monticello with 14 points and Trey Kuper adding seven.

     The B team lost 45-28. Scoring for Monticello were Grant Hospodarsky with seven points, Joseph Schrader with five, Marco Perez, Gabe Goodyear and Chandler Weber with four apiece; Thomas Fokken and Calvin Scott with two each.

     On Jan. 22, Monticello played host to Camanche. The Panther A team lost 56-20. Six Monticello players scored points: Sauser with eight, Wyatt Coyle and Kuper with three apiece, and Brendan Koppes, Kaden Finn and Hospodarsky with two each.

     The B team lost to Camanche 7-6. Jayce Schmitt, Schrader and Hospodarsky had two points apiece for Monticello.

 

Seventh-grade team

     Monticello opened its seventh-grade boys basketball season against three opponents.

     The teams traveled to Bellevue Jan. 18, and the Red team won 31-10. The White team lost 21-4.

     On Jan. 22, Monticello played host to Camanche, with the Red team winning 45-33 and the White team falling 15-7.

     At Cascade Jan. 25, the Red team lost 41-37. There was no White team game.

     Members of the Red team are Dylan Roher, Caelum Jones, Ian Temple, Chesney Capron, Austin Kurt, Deacon Besler, Gage Guilford, Gavin Fuhrmeister and Tate Petersen.

     Members of the White team include: Kole Weber, Kade Hermsen, Zach Reuter, Jalen Range, Jordan Range, Rylan Kraus, Elias Etzel, Kyler Husmann, Zach O’Brien, Cole Nietert, Cord Nietert, Joel Arduser, Nathan Sauser, Andrew Berta, Christian Castillo and Ethan Long.
