Panther JV controls three opponents

GIRLS BASKETBALL

     Monticello won three lopsided games last week, to improve its junior varsity girls basketball season record to 4-0, including 3-0 against River Valley Conference teams.

     The Panthers started the week with a 49-29 home win over Northeast of Goose Lake. Monticello had a 25-10 second half to take control. Karli Recker led Monticello in scoring with 14 points. Gabby Guilford added 10, Beka Prull had eight, Gabby Steiner had six, Tori McDonald added five, DeLainy Fellinger had four, and Dru Kramer added two. The team made four three-point baskets, including two by Steiner.

     “Outside shooting and a very tough second half defense led us to victory,” Monticello coach Chuck Welsch said.

     At home against West Branch Dec. 1, the Panthers won 53-20. Scoring were Guilford with 14, Prull with nine, Recker with eight, McDonald with seven, Fellinger with six, Steiner with five, Emily Schlarmann and Kramer with two apiece.

     On Dec. 2, the Panthers traveled to Midland and scored a 60-7 win, as Prull scored 23 points. Steiner added 11, Guilford scored eight, Recker had six, Schlarmann had five, Fellinger had four, Megan Mahoney scored two and McDonald had one.
