ORBIS Corporation, a leader in reusable packaging, is expanding its operation in Monticello, Iowa, to make room for continued growth. With support from local contractors and suppliers, the building will more than double in size, expanding from 80,000 to 180,000 square feet. Construction is scheduled to start summer 2017 and end spring 2018. The new space is initially slated to be used for warehousing, fulfillment and value-added operations.

ORBIS is North America’s leader in reusable packaging and operates in 50 locations worldwide. Powered by Menasha Corporation, a family-owned business, ORBIS takes pride and engrains itself in the communities its employees are a part of. Operations in Monticello began in 1974, and ORBIS has been a strong supporter of the community ever since, investing and staying involved in local events, businesses, and public services. With the funding made available through the Menasha Corporation Foundation, the ORBIS operation in Monticello donates each year to non-profit agencies in the community that are in need of financial support, as well as volunteers.

At this facility, ORBIS manufactures plastic reusable toys, trays and bins for use in the food, beverage, automotive and consumer packaged-goods industries. These products are used in place of single-use boxes or cartons, helping companies reduce waste, while adding efficiency to their operations.

“Everyone at ORBIS wants to thank the City of Monticello, Jones County Economic Development and Iowa Economic Development for inspiring us to continue investing in the Monticello operation, said Doug Wortman, plant manager for ORBIS’ Monticello and Manchester, Iowa plants. “Having twice the space than we currently operate in will allow us to offer more services, in-house capabilities and products to our customers and position that plant for future manufacturing growth. We are excited to collaborate with contractors in the Monticello area to bring this expansion to life.”

With more than 160 years of material handling expertise and 60 years of plastics innovations, ORBIS helps customers move their product faster, safer and more cost-effectively with plastic packaging. As a steward of sustainability, ORBIS is committed to a better world for future generations. The Monticello operation has been reducing its carbon footprint with cleaner and more efficient energy use, and has received awards from Alliant Energy for these accomplishments. This building expansion will continue to support these efforts.
