MSgt. (Ret.) Thomas R. Treviranus, Sr. July 4, 1939-Jan. 23, 2017

MSgt. (Ret.) Thomas R. Treviranus, Sr., of Rice Lake, Wis., died on Jan. 23, 2017 at the age of 77.

Tom was born on July 4, 1939 in Duluth, Minn., to Raymond and Kathleen (Tinny) Treviranus. In 1954, Tom joined the United States Air Force, from which he would retire in 1978 after proudly serving his country for 24 years. During his military career, Tom completed two tours in Vietnam (1963 and 1968), and served in Bermuda, Japan, and Okinawa. He was the recipient of two Air Force Commendation Medals and the Meritorious Service Medal. In 1962, Tom married Jacky Olson. The couple had one son and two daughters, all born in Japan and Okinawa on military bases.

After retiring from the military, the family lived in Sioux City, Iowa, for one year where Tom attended meat-cutting school before settling down in Monticello, Iowa. There he worked as a butcher before changing careers to be a correctional officer, and eventually earned a degree in locksmithing. For many years Tom owned and operated a locksmith business.

After living in Monticello for eight years, Tom and Jacky moved the family back to their roots in Duluth, Minn., where they remained until they were elderly, and relocated to Rice Lake, Wis., to be near family.

Tom will be loved and missed by surviving wife, Jacky Treviranus of Wisconsin; sons, Kelly (Sandy) Treviranus of Iowa, Thomas Treviranus, Jr., Raymond Treviranus and Jeffery Treviranus, all of Minnesota; daughters Tina (Keith) Cox of California, and Kristi (Glen) Rudolph of Wisconsin; grandchildren Kory (Jenny), Katie, Madelyn, Bryce, Jesse, Jacob (Kathy), Jodie, Allen (Amber), Dylan and Stefanie; sister Laurie (Michael) Stewart; and many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert; sisters Mary Lou (Blondie), and Janet.

At Tom’s request, no services will be held. In the summer, there will be a Celebration of Life for close family and friends. Interment of his ashes will be held in July 2017, at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, St. Paul, Minn.

No flowers please, but expressions of sympathy would be appreciated and can be sent to:  Treviranus Family, 1311 S. Main St. #154, Rice Lake, WI 54868.
