MSD Foundation dinner, auction set for March 3

The Monticello School District Foundation gave over $20,000 to help purchase new band uniforms of the Monticello High School Marching Band. The students wore the uniforms while marching and performing in the Memorial Day parade in May 2017. (Express file photo)

As March fast approaches, everyone is thinking spring… And the 13th Annual Monticello School District Foundation Dinner and Auction.

The event will take place the evening of Saturday, March 3 at 5:30 p.m. at the Monticello Berndes Center. Tickets are available until Wednesday, Feb. 28, for $25 each. Contact a Foundation board member or the school district office to purchase tickets. You can also visit http://events.readysetauction.com/monticelloschoolfoundation/gala2018 to purchase event tickets.

Funds from the MSD Foundation are necessary for the future educational needs and projects of the students in Monticello.

Several volunteers, who have given numerous hours over the years, help to run the Foundation. The Foundation has given hundreds of thousands of dollars since its inception towards improvements to the Monticello Community School District. Over the years, funds have been given to assist with technology improvements for all four of the MCSD facilities. These technology purchases include: Smart Boards, LCD projectors, iPads, and laptops.

Over the years, the Foundation has also given funds for the purchase of new high school band uniforms, text books and books for the school libraries, robotic technology, equipment for the high school weight room, outdoor play mats for the middle school’s gaga ball pits, gym equipment, band instruments, science lab microscopes, playground equipment at Shannon Elementary School, among many other items, speakers, and educational opportunities.

As always, the Foundation dinner will include a silent and live auction, with numerous items being donated and collected for the event. Several school classes are also working hard on their handmade auction items. Among those items are a Magnolia brand gift bag from the HGTV show “Fixer Upper” starring Chip and Joanna Gaines, a child’s balance bike, a child’s red motorized car, two tickets to a Cedar Rapids Rough Riders home hockey game, a voucher for two reserved seats at a St. Louis Cardinals baseball game, a signed 8x10 photo of the Minnesota Vikings, a signed Green Bay Packers football, an Iowa Hawkeye quilt, a birthday party package at Central Park, and a solid oak heirloom rocking horse and leather saddle and bridle.

Aside from the dinner and auction, the Monticello Area Chamber of Commerce will also be selling wine by the glass or bottle throughout the evening.

This year, the Foundation will also be honoring one of its own for their dedication toward the efforts of the Foundation. This year’s honoree will be Creighton Randolph, who has been with the Foundation for over 20 years. Aside from serving on the Foundation board, Randolph has assisted in the live auction for several years.

Since its inception in 1988, 30 years ago, the MCSD Foundation has been instrumental because of its community supporters, donors, and volunteers.

For more information, to purchase a ticket, or to donate an item for the Foundation silent or live auction, contact the District Office at 319-465-5963 ext. 5200 or visit http://events.readysetauction.com/monticelloschoolfoundation/gala2018.
