Moser School of Dance and Gymnastics athlete Carter Phillips 16, while vying for a chance to be on the 2018 Elite USTA National Team, competed in his second of three USTA Elite National Team Trials in Belvidere, Ill. in January.

Phillips scored well in all three of his preliminary passes and then qualified for finals, where he placed sixth over all.

“Moser coaches could not be more proud of Carter and his work ethic, and the fact that he is the only USTA gymnast from Iowa vying for a spot on the Elite National Team,” co-coach Debbie Moser said.

In order to qualify to try out for the team, the athletes must be able to do a set 8 skill compulsory pass and also be able to do 2 (8 skills each) optional passes that equal a 9.0 difficulty and above. The USTA has over 6000 current members in which there are 60 females and 38 males in tumbling, trampoline, and double mini vying for placement onto the team.
