Merlin Darrell Moore

     Merlin Darrell Moore, 84, of Anamosa, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

     Merlin was born on Aug. 31, 1933 to Alfred and Katherine Hinrichs Moore in Fulton, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Carolyn Conner on Feb. 9, 1952. She passed away in 2015.

     Merlin and Carolyn had six children, Kent (Becky) Moore, Karla (Tanner) Sauer, Kim Moore (predeceased), Kyle (Donna Wenndt) Moore, Kandis (Jon) Alderdyce, and Kip (Tami) Moore. They had 14 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren. Merlin attended school in Wyoming, Hale, and graduated from Olin in 1951. He worked at Clinton Engine. He then started farming in 1955 in Monticello, Castle Grove area. In 1967 he purchased a farm and moved to Anamosa, Cass Township where he was currently residing.

     In 1979, he was elected to the Jones County Board of Supervisors; he held that that position for 26 years. He worked for Conmey Real Estate in Anamosa for 12 years then opened Merlin Moore Realty, which he operated for 18 years.

     Merlin also managed Kents Kountry Kombo for seven years, a band formed by his children Kent and Karla.

     Merlin and Carolyn loved traveling to the dances on Saturday nights to listen to his children and their band.

     Merlin loved to travel to Branson with family to hear Daniel O’Donnell. He loved his farm, couldn’t get away from his little piece of earth. Loved his grandchildren, handed out M&Ms to all of them when they visited. Even telling them about the alligator in his pond, and telling his hunting stories.

     Merlin is preceded in death by his wife Carolyn, son Kim, parents, four brothers, and three sisters.

     Merlin leaves behind a loving family who will never be able to replace his loving grace.

     Celebration of life will be held Wednesday, Sept. 20, 5-8 p.m. at the Lawrence Center, Anamosa, Iowa. Private burial at a later date.
