Marquette edges Panthers

BOYS SOCCER

Janik Chally scored three goals for the Monticello High School boys soccer team, but the Panthers fell just short in a match at Bellevue Marquette April 11, falling by a score of 4-3.

The Panthers (1-4) had a total of seven shots on goal during the match, including three apiece by Gavin Holub and Chally, and one by Scott Lange. Tony Wallerich assisted on one of Chally’s goals.

Monticello goalkeeper Jordan Breashears made 18 saves during the match.

The previous day, the Panthers traveled to Iowa City to face Regina, which is ranked second in Class 1A. The Regals lived up to that ranking, blanking Monticello 9-0.
