Marcia May Gabriel

Marcia May Gabriel, 86, of Madrid, Iowa, died Monday, April 17, 2017 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa.  Funeral services will be Thursday, April 20, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Columbus Junction, Iowa.  Burial will be in the Columbus City Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at the funeral home from 9:00am until service time.  A memorial has been established at the funeral home in Marcia’s name.  Online condolences may be left to the family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com

Marcia May Fuller was born December 30, 1930 in Cotter, Iowa to Ward De Pue and Marie Alice (Strayer) Fuller.  She attended school in Cotter and graduated from Muscatine High School, before she went on to lab technician school in Minneapolis.  On September 29, 1952, Marcia was united in marriage to Glen Howard Gabriel Sr. in Santa Barbara, California. Marcia worked as a lab technician for the hospital in Maquoketa and Monticello.  Later, she opened Pam’s Style Shop in 1962, and was the first female to receive the chamber’s “person of the year”, she was Co-Chairman of Monticello’s Sesquicentennial in 1986.  In 1993, she moved to Ankeny to be closer to family.  In 2004 she moved to her final home on an acreage by Madrid, Iowa.  Marcia enjoyed cheering for the Cubs, Hawkeyes, and Cyclones.  She was an avid supporter of the local, state and federal Republican Party.  Marcia enjoyed many years working on crafts, and thoroughly loved time spent with family, especially the bonfires on the farm.                            

Marcia will be dearly missed by her three sons, Glen (Mary) Gabriel Jr.of Urbandale, Mark (Revae) Gabriel of Tama and Steve (Deb Williams) Gabriel of Oelwein; nine grandchildren, Kristen Newell, Jessica Suhr, Tom Gabriel, Ben Gabriel, Joe Gabriel, Nick Gabriel, Elizabeth Gabriel, Emily Gabriel and Erin Gabriel; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Harriett Heckathorn and Mary Hill.

Marcia was preceded in death by her parents; husband; siblings, Richard Fuller, Josephine Crumly, Robert Fuller, Ed Fuller and Paul Fuller; daughter-in-law, Teri Gabriel; and special friend, Dwight Evans.
