Kain Luensman placed third in the Grade 7-8, 110-pound weight class at the Iowa AAU State Wrestling Tournament Feb. 25-26 in Des Moines.

Luensman went 5-1 in the tournament, competing in a 32-wrestler bracket. He has placed in the top three every year for the past six years at the AAU state tournament. He has won state championships in two AAU tournaments and one USA tournament.

“Kain wrestles a very technical and smart match,” said his father and coach, Ryan Luensman. “This experience with big events serves him well, as he has placed in many national events and has been on national teams.”

Three other Monticello Wrestling Club (MWC) Elite wrestlers competed at the state tournament. Cael Sampson and Jackson Knapp both went 1-2, and Tait Luensman went 0-2. Three others – Ethan Long, Mark Sunlin and Jalen Range – qualified but did not compete at State.

Kain Luensman has been offered the opportunity to wrestle on a few Iowa national teams within the next month.
