Monticello sophomore Dru Kramer completed her state tournament-qualifying season with a 23rd-place finish out of 68 golfers at the State Class 2A Girls Golf Tournament May 28-29 in Ames Golf and Country Club.

Kramer shot 90-92–182 for the two-day event.

“I think Dru performed very well,” Monticello coach Joe Steen said. “She kept the ball in the fairway for most of the holes, and she putted the best she had all year.”

Steen said Kramer had just a couple of holes in which things didn’t go well, but recovered.

“She played 34 of the 36 holes really solid,” the coach said. “She kept her composure when things could have gone south. She was able to follow up a bad shot with a good one, or make a long putt.

“In most of her 18-hole meets (this season) she had one good nine and one bad nine, but at State she played consistently for all 36 holes.”

It was Kramer’s second trip to the state tournament; she was part of the Panther team that qualified a year ago. That time, she finished in 64th place.

“I think Dru overall had a good season,” Steen concluded. “She will use this experience to grow as a player and start strong next year.”
