Kay Ann Shankland, 79, of Anamosa, Iowa died Saturday April 15, 2017 at University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa.

Friends and relatives may gather at 10 am Friday, April 21, 2017, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Anamosa where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m.  A Celebration of Life Service will be held after mass at the Lawrence Center in Anamosa.  Burial will be held in Castle Grove Cemetery at a later date.  Officiating will be Rev. Scott Boone.

Kay was born on December 24, 1937 at home in Cascade Iowa, the daughter of Joe and Marie (Welter) Hosch.  She married Lyle Shankland on September 12, 1959, in Castle Grove, Iowa.  Kay attended Sacred Heart schools in Monticello.  She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, the Morley Women’s Club and Paint N Pallet.  She was an avid cook; painter; bird watcher; gardener; and thrift store shopper.

Survivors include her children: Cynthia (fiancé Don Clark) Rutan, Catherine Brown, and Chris (Lois) Shankland; grandchildren: Alan (Heather) Rutan, Michael (Rachael) Rutan, Kevin Rutan, Kasey (Sarah) Brown, Jesse Brown, Danaisa Brown, Brooke Shankland, Chelsea Shankland, Michael Rutan Jr.; siblings: Connie (Lance) Booth, Terry (Diane) Hosch), Sheila (Chuck) McGuire, Kenneth (Ethel) Hosch; and brother in law, Alvin (Marge) Shankland.

Kay’s children would like to leave a special thank you to their Mom and Dad.  Thank you to our Mom and Dad, for being the best Parents Ever!  You will be missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Lyle Shankland.
