JV, varsity reserve teams battle Cascade

     Monticello sent its varsity reserve girls basketball team to Cascade for a Dec. 20 game, which Cascade won by a score of 39-22.

     The Panthers had a balanced scoring attack, with seven different Monticello players getting points. Finishing with four points apiece were Meredith Melchert, Lydia Franzenburg, Marissa Recker and Sydney Hansen. Scoring two points each were Aspen Gillmore, Gabrielle Steiner and Savanah Kremer.

     Monticello split a pair of junior varsity boys basketball games against River Valley Conference opponents in recent action.

     On Dec. 12, the Panthers (6-2) played host to Iowa City Regina and lost a 32-28 decision. Connor Lambert scored 11 points, Tyler Luensman added six, Daltyn Kramer had five, and Ty Kehoe, Gavin Cooper and Jeff Carlson chipped in two apiece.

     The Panthers played at Cascade Dec. 15, and won 34-27. Monticello jumped to a 17-8 lead by halftime, and held on the rest of the way.

     Connor Lambert led Monticello in scoring with 15 points. Also scoring were Carlson with eight points, Luensman with four, Kehoe with three, Devin Kraus and Brayden Cleeton with two apiece.
