JV plays three to close season

VOLLEYBALL

     Three matches wrapped up the season for the Monticello junior varsity volleyball team.

     The Panthers played at Anamosa Sept. 25 and lost by scores of 15-25, 14-25. Tori McDonald had two kills, seven assists, seven digs, and served 12-for-13 with three aces. Beka Prull had six kills. Gabby Gadient had five digs, two kills and two assists. Clara Finger and Megan James had three digs apiece. Destiney Knapp and Sophie Hodge had two digs each. Marissa McNally had two aces.

     On Oct. 3, the Panthers played host to Bellevue, and lost 20-25, 26-24, 6-15. Jaelynn Kraus had six kills and seven digs. Gadient had nine digs and served 9-for-10 with two aces. Finger had five kills and two digs. McDonald had 14 assists, two digs, and served 8-for-9. Jordan Lorenzen and Carly Hayen had three kills apiece, and Kenna Melchert had two. Hodge made four digs, James had three and Prull had two. Prull also served 10-for-10 with an ace.

     The final match of the season was a tough 24-26, 27-25, 6-15 home loss to Camanche.

     “This was such a hard-fought match with lots of great play happening,” Monticello coach Kylie McDonell said. “Camanche’s defense was too good at the end.”

     Prull had seven kills. Finger had six kills, five digs, and served 12-for-12 with an ace. Hayen had five kills. McDonald had three kills, 18 assists, two digs, and served 9-for-9. Gadient had three kills, eight digs and seved 9-for-9. Hodge had two digs, and served 9-for-10 with two aces. James had two kills, eight digs and two assists. McNally had a kill and an assist.

     The Panthers finished with a record of 5-11.

     “Everyone worked hard this season, and we’ve seen many improvements,” McDonell said.
