JV Panthers edge Anamosa

     Monticello grabbed a 12-7 lead over Anamosa, and made it stand in the junior varsity football opener Friday, Aug. 25 at Dean Nelson Field.

     Two big plays near the end of the game helped seal the win for the Panthers. First, Jeff Carlson kicked a long punt that Monticello downed at the Anamosa 10-yard line with 1:52 to play, On the next play, Tyler Luensman intercepted an Anamosa pass at the Blue Raider 36, enabling Monticello to run out the clock.

     Bo Kramer scored a rushing touchdown, and Luke Lambert completed a touchdown pass to Justin Recker for the Panthers. Kramer finished with 16 carries for 73 yards, and Colin Jordan had 12 carries for 72 yards.

     Defensively, Ben Oswald led the team with nine tackles, Tyler Luensman had eight, Lambert and Kramer had five apiece, Cade Folken and Cole Wilson had three each.

     The Panthers will play at Camanche Friday, Sept. 1. The game has been moved up to a 5 p.m. start.
