JV Panthers battle Union to 20-20 tie

     Monticello’s junior varsity football team battled a Union team that had not allowed a point, to a 20-20 tie Friday, Sept. 8 in La Porte City.

     The Panthers (2-0-1) got touchdowns from Colin Jordan and Bo Kramer on the ground, and a touchdown pass from Jeff Carlson to Justin Recker.

     Jordan finished with 20 carries for 118 yards, and Kramer had 19 rushes for 90 yards. Carlson completed four of seven passes for 49 yards, and Luke Lambert was 2-for-4 for 49 yards. Tyler Luensman caught four passes for 69 yards, and Recker finished with two catches for 29.

     Defensively, Ben Oswald had 6.5 tackles. Spencer Avery had six tackles and recovered a Union fumble. Kain Luensman had 5.5 tackles, Cole Wilson had 4.5, while Tyler Luensman and Recker had four apiece. Luke Lambert made an interception.

     Carlson also had two punts for an average of 43 yards per kick.

     The previous week, the JV rallied late to score a 16-14 win at Camanche Sept. 1. The Panthers fell behind 14-8 on a Camanche touchdown with 4:31 left to play. Monticello then drove to the Camanche 1-yard line, and Kramer scored on a one-yard plunge with 52.4 seconds left to tie the game. Kramer then went up the middle for a two-point conversion and the winning points.

     Kramer finished with 30 carries for 155 yards. Quarterback Carlson completed five of nine passes for 100 yards. Recker caught two of those for 49 yards, and Kain Luensman had a 39-yard reception.

     Defensively, leading tacklers were Avery and Cade Folken with 4.5 apiece, Oswald and Luke Lambert with four each. Kain Luensman had three. Tyler Luensman had two interceptions, and Kain Luensman had one. Chance Janssen recovered a Camanche fumble.
