GIRLS BASKETBALL RECAP

Junior varsity

The undefeated Monticello junior varsity girls basketball team had its perfect record tested a pair of times last week, but came out on top in each case.

Monticello played host to Camanche Jan. 8. The Panthers trailed 15-9 before Piper Hansen hit back-to-back three-pointers to tie it, and Monticello went on to win 38-29. The Panthers outscored the Indians 28-12 in the second and third quarters.

Lydia Recker scored 11 points, and had six assists, five rebounds and four steals. Hansen finished with 10 points. Bronwyn Hodge had eight points and five rebounds. Rebekah Prull had five points. DeLainy Fellinger had two points, nine rebounds, three assists and two steals. Kayla Simmons had two points.

“We did a very good job taking care of the ball,” Monticello coach Chuck Welsch said.

The Panthers traveled to Bellevue Jan. 11, and had their closest game of the year before pulling out a 43-42 win, as Prull scored on a layup in the closing seconds for the winning points off a sideline out of bounds play.

“We had a season low in turnovers. It was a great team win,” Welsch said.

Hodge had 15 points, nine rebounds and three assists. Prull finished with 12 points. Lydia Recker had seven points, four assists and seven steals. Fellinger had three points, five rebounds and five assists. Scoring two points each were Elise Kehoe, Mallory Steiner and Simmons.
