JV closes with convincing win

     Monticello closed its successful junior varsity football season with a convincing 36-8 win over Waterloo Columbus Friday, Oct. 20 at Dean Nelson Field in Monticello.

     Jeff Carlson completed nine of 15 passes for 162 yards and three touchdowns, as the Panthers ended with a record of 6-2-1. Tyler Luensman, Justin Recker and DaShaun Werling caught touchdown passes.

     Bo Kramer had 25 carries for 100 yards and a touchdown, and Tyler Luensman also had a touchdown run.

     Defensively, Spencer Avery totaled six tackles, while Ben Oswald, Cole Wilson and Dylan Bowser had five apiece. Tyler Luensman made an interception, and Luke Lambert recovered a Columbus fumble.

     “I thought the boys did a great job all season, getting better and better throughout the season,” said Donnie Kremer, who co-coached the team with Greg Williams.

     “They never gave up on anything and fought for everything. They were a very fun group to coach.”
