Monticello split a pair of softball games in junior varsity action last week.

The Panthers played at West Liberty June 18, and scored a 6-2 victory. Monticello’s three-run first inning proved decisive. DeLainy Fellinger went 1-for-1 and scored two runs. Mallory Steiner was the winning pitcher.

On June 22, Anamosa rallied to defeat Monticello 7-4, getting four runs in the top of the fifth inning. For the Panthers, Piper Hansen hit a two-run homer in the first inning. It was the second home run of the season for the team – Reese Cox hit a solo homer in a season-opening May 21 win over Marion. Cox scored two runs for the Panthers in the Anamosa game. Steiner pitched, but took the loss.
