JRMC names new ER medical director

     UnityPoint Health–Jones Regional Medical Center (JRMC) Emergency Department has named a new medical director. David Baumgartner, MD, has accepted the position of medical director of the Emergency Department and Anamosa Area Ambulance, effective Sept. 15.

     Dr. Baumgartner is replacing Dr. Josh Pruitt who served in this role for three years. Dr. Pruitt recently accepted a new position as medical director of Area Ambulance in Cedar Rapids and the Cedar Rapids Fire Department and will continue to work as an emergency physician at JRMC.

     Dr. Baumgartner currently works in the Emergency Department at Jones Regional, St. Luke’s Hospital and Buchanan County Medical Center. From 2015-16, Dr. Baumgartner served as chief resident of the University of Iowa Emergency Medicine Program.

     Dr. Baumgartner received his medical degree from University of Colorado in 2013 and completed his emergency medicine residency in 2016. He joined East Central Iowa Acute Care in 2015 and is board-certified in emergency medicine.

     Prior to medical school, Dr. Baumgartner served his country and graduated in the top 10 percent of his class from the United States Air Force Academy and went on to fly C-130 transport airplanes during major U.S. Operations Northern Watch and Iraqi Freedom. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force as a Major.
