Jones Co. Extension offers ‘Plan Ahead’ workshops

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach in Jones County is piloting a new two-part program called “Plan Ahead” which focuses on future care planning. The target audience is older adults who live independently. It emphasizes preparing for an ER visit, talking to health care providers, and having family discussions about future care. It includes short videos and discussion. Sessions are about one and a half to two hours, and a week apart.

For the pilot offerings until the end of the year, the Extension will provide refreshments and a $15 gift card at each session for anyone who participates and completes the surveys. They can also receive a $10 gift card for participating in a phone survey after the sessions.

Participants should plan to attend both sessions. It will be offered Thursday, Nov. 29 and Thursday, Dec. 6 at the Anamosa Public Library from 10-11:30 a.m. Interested participants can register by calling 319-465-3224.

The Extension would be glad to offer the program to other groups. They prefer a group size of about 12-15. Please contact Phyllis Zalenski at 319-465-3224, 319-480-1106, or zalenski@iastate.edu if you have questions or would like more information.
