      John Sanders, 54, of Anamosa, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2019 at Unity Point St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. A memorial service was held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2019 at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa, where the family greeted friends from 3 p.m. to the time of service.       John David Sanders was born Aug. 1, 1964 in Roanoke Rapids, N.C., the son of John H. and Carolyn (Mead) Sanders, Jr. He graduated from Northwest High School in 1982. He married Lucille Jarina on May 20, 2003 in Richmond, Va. The couple moved to Anamosa in 2008 to be closer to Lucille’s family. He was employed as a caregiver to special need adults and worked for Advancement Services of Jones County in Monticello.

      He will be remembered as someone who loved games shows, telling jokes and pulling pranks, and enjoyed music. Through his church, he participated in programs which fed hungry people in the Philippines.

      He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Lucille, his son and daughter-in-law Waverly Burgess and Polly Richardson, Rocky Mount N.C., his siblings Allen of Richmond,Va., Susan (Shannon) Lawson of Richmond, Va. and Tammy Sanders of Roanoke Rapids, in-laws Ingrid Jarina of the Pillippines, Filgie Jarina of Anamosa, Ramon (Annalyn) Jarina of Darwin, Australia, and Filreen Jarina of the Philippines, nieces Stephanie Sanders of Emporia, Va., Megan Duck of Richmond, Va. and Michelle Jones of Greensborough, N.C., nephews Tony Orpiano and Brandon Orpiano, both of Richmond, Va., an aunt Betty Bulas of Richmond, Va. and an uncle Bobby Sanders of Richmond, Va.

      He was preceded in death by his parents, his father and mother-in-law, a brother Michael Wayne Sanders, and a brother-in-law Manuel Rojo.
