      Janet Mootz age 74, died Wednesday Aug. 15, 2018 at Mercy Hospital Cedar Rapids with her family by her side. 

      Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday morning, Aug. 20, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Monticello with interment in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Fr. Paul Baldwin will officiate at the services.   Friends may call from 4 until 7 p.m. Sunday at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello where a parish Vigil Service will begin at 4 p.m..  Visitation will resume on Monday after 9:30 a.m. at the church. 

      Surviving is her husband LeeRoy, three children, Angela (Brian) Ward, Melbourne, Fla., Kristi (Joe) Goetz and Lynn (Lisa) Mootz both of Monticello, four grandchildren, Erin and Katie Ward, Jesse Goetz and Jonathon Mootz and her sister, Marian (Bill) Vaughn, Bellevue. She was preceded in death by her parents, and an infant daughter.  

      Janet Kay Deppe was born Aug. 19, 1943 at Bellevue, Iowa.  She was the daughter of Francis and Marcella Becker, Deppe.   Prior to marriage she worked at the Bellevue Bakery, Bellevue Produce and Ensign Coil.  Jan married LeeRoy Mootz on June 10, 1961 at Bellevue.  The couple moved to Monticello in 1967 where LeeRoy was employed at Monticello Implement.  In 1985 the couple started Woodworks, an antique furniture business, and by February of 1992 that grew to be Whiffle Tree Antique Mall. 

      Jan had been a Camp Fire Leader and board member for many years.  She also coached girls softball. She was an excellent seamstress, making bridal gowns for her daughters and daughter-in-law.  She also loved to garden, can and make wine. 

      In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Camp Courageous.
