ISU Extension offers ‘Bake for Good’

Don’t you love the wonderful smell of fresh baked goods?

On Monday, Jan. 16 and Wednesday, Jan. 18, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach will offer two baking sessions: “Bake for Good.”

     • Jan. 16, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Barn Farm with lunch.

     • Jan. 18, 1:30 to 6 p.m. at Midland High School with dinner.

Kids will participate in the “Bake for Good” and learn that math, science, reading and baking know-how add up to something delicious.

The event is open to all youth in fourth grade and up. Adult volunteers are also welcome (subject to satisfactory background screening).

Participants will be baking rolls together, and your child will donate part of what they’ve made to Jones County Senior Dining. In addition to sampling some of what they’ve made, your new baker will come home with a “Bake for Good” recipe booklet, a dough scraper and new baking skills.

This class is free of charge through a grant with King Arthur Floor. Kids will be exploring the baking process and enjoying some fresh made pizza for lunch or dinner.

Register by contacting Monica Gray at mongray@iastate.edu, Jones County Extension at 319-465-3224, or 800 N. Maple St., Monticello. The registration deadline is Friday, Jan. 13.
