Holub, Panthers win one in Solon

BOYS SOCCER

Gavin Holub scored all four goals as the Monticello High School boys soccer team picked up one win in three matches at the Solon Invitational tournament Saturday, April 1.

Holub’s goals came in the final game of the day for the Panthers (1-2), in a 4-1 win over Wapello. Earlier, Monticello lost 2-0 to Mediapolis and 5-0 to Solon.

Eli Boyd and Tony Wallerich each assisted on two of Holub’s goals. Goalkeeper Jordan Breashears made 11 saves for the Panthers.

“I was happy with how we played for it being early in the season,” Monticello coach Phil Gilkerson said. “We created multiple chances each game to score goals, and moved the ball well.

“Building team chemistry on the field will be the next goal in our team’s development.”
