Help very much appreciated as substitute teacher

Letter to the Editor

To the Editor,

Walking into a classroom as a substitute teacher can produce more than a little anxiety. Will I understand the lesson plans for today, and will I find them quickly and be able to digest them before the students arrive?? Sometimes what may seem obvious to the teacher that only teaches in one subject area, might not be obvious to me, especially in the math and science area…not my forte!

So, this letter is to thank those teachers who have taken extra effort to clarify their lesson plans, even leaving their cell number if I have questions and the kind thank-you notes they’ve left. I’ve also appreciated the administrative staff and other teachers who have stopped by to say hello and offer their support and assistance.

There have also been helpful students that have come to my rescue when I was looking for something or they offered their help to a struggling fellow-student.

So, while subbing is challenging, I have met some amazing staff and students for which I’m grateful.

Sincerely,

Marilyn Schneiderman
