Governor declares May 17 DIPG Day

Letter to the Editor

To the Editor,

I usually submit articles that are related in some way to national security or the economy. However, this morning my wife read to me a Facebook message announcing the signing of a proclamation by the Governor declaring May 17 as DIPG Day.

When I heard that, I thought what better use can I make of this space than to remind all that we are going to place an event on the calendar drawing awareness to this dreadful disease and the need to give it the attention it demands?

Research is obviously very costly, but an absolute necessity. If we will just stop a minute and realize the need to take care of our young folks (DIPG typically attacks children between the ages of 4 and 11), we will hopefully be more ready and willing to respond in a positive fashion in support of the effort to win this crucial battle.

My father often remarked that patience and perseverance would win anything. That may be true, but consider two other “P” words: pocketbook and prayer.

Please take a moment on May 17 to reflect on this special occasion.
