First alumni tourney attracts four teams; Bader team wins

     Four teams of Monticello High School boys basketball alumni reunited in the MHS gym for the first Monticello Alumni Basketball Tournament Saturday, Jan. 28.

     Unlike alumni games of past years, in which the returning players would simply split into two teams, captains formed their own teams of alumni Panthers in a round robin format.

     The Bader team took first place, posting a 3-0 record. The Ahlrichs team was second at 2-1, the Jeff Lambert team third with a 1-2 mark, and the Derek Manternach team fourth at 0-3.

     A capsule look at the six games:

 

Bader 62, Lambert 39

     Mike Burkle led the Bader team with 16 points, while Justin Bader scored 15 and Butch Hunter added 10. T.J. Rieniets and Jacob Oswald each scored five for Lambert.

Ahlrichs 53, Manternach 51

     Jay Ahlrichs scored 13 points, Devin Spensley had 11 and Jordan Schneiter added 10 for Ahlrichs. Jacob Bergman made six three-point shots to finish with 18 for Manternach. Derek Manternach scored 11.

Bader 76, Ahlrichs 38

     Hunter led Bader with 16, Justin Bader had 13 and Burkle scored 12. Zach Monk had eight points for Ahlrichs.

Lambert 70, Manternach 61

     Jeff Lambert led his team with 18 points, Oswald had 13 and Chance Manternach scored 10. For Manternach, Tyler McDonald and Derek Manternach each had 17, and Dallas Lumpa scored 12.

Bader 62, Manternach 53

     Hunter scored 20 to pace Bader, while Connor Keleher added 16 and Burkle scored 10. McDonald led Manternach with 17, Bergman had 12 and Jesse Iben scored 10.

Ahlrichs 64, Lambert 61

     Jeff Plummer led a balanced scoring attack for Ahlrichs with 13 points, Ahlrichs scored 12 and Nic Eastburn added 10. Lambert led the Lambert team with 19, and Chance Manternach scored 15.
