Field day Friday to cover manure distribution, more

Iowa State University Extension is holding a manure field day at Eldon C. Stutsman Inc. on Aug. 4 to help manure applicators better understand manure distribution, calibration and the value of manure.

A flowmeter calibration check is important to achieve accurate application rates in the field. Understanding the value of manure can help producers to use nutrients appropriately, leading to better manure management for their livestock operations.

Speakers for the Manure Distribution and Calibration field day include Dan Andersen, ISU assistant professor in ag engineering, Kapil Arora and Greg Brenneman ISU ag engineering specialists, and Rebecca Vittetoe ISU Extension agronomist.

The Stutsman farm is located at 350 Oakcrest Hill Road SE, Hills. The event begins at 11:30 a.m. with registration followed by a free lunch at noon. Presentations and demonstrations begin at 1 p.m. and will cover manifold distribution, flowmeter verification and value of manure as fertilizer.

To help with lunch arrangements and field day planning, participants are requested to register online at aep.iastate.edu/manure or by calling the Johnson County Extension office at 319-337- 2145.
