Dolores Kremer

     Dolores Kremer, age 87, died Tuesday April 25, 2017, following an extended illness. 

     Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 Saturday morning, April 28, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Monticello with interment in the Oakwood Cemetery. A parish Rosary will start the visitation at 4 p.m. on Friday at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello. Visitation will conclude at 7 that evening and then resume on Saturday morning after 9:30 at the church. Rev. Paul Baldwin will officiate at the services.      Surviving are her three children, Deacon Douglas Kremer, East Dubuque, Ill., Sheryl Leonard, and James (Mary) Kremer both of Monticello; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; her sister, June Ann (Eugene) Clark, Cedar Rapids; her brother, Larry (Katherine) Harms, New Bern, N.C.; aisters and brothers-in-laws, Joseph (Frank) Kremer, Milwaukee, Ann Noonan, Cedar Rapids, George (Marci) Kremer, Dutton, Mont., Charles (Rosemary) Kremer, Devil’s Elbow, Mo., John (Linda) Kremer, Cascade, Patti Harms, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Loras, a son-in-law, Michael Leonard, and a brother Robert, in-laws Mary (Warren) Johnson, Robert (Beatrice) Kremer, Richard Noonan. 

     Dolores Helen Harms was born July 10, 1929 in Jones County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Eduard and Mary Lawson, Harms. Dolores attended the Wyoming schools in her early years and graduated from the Anamosa Community Schools in 1946. She worked as a telephone operator in Cedar Rapids while also taking her Normal Training Course. Dolores taught in the Hard Scrabble rural school and also as a substitute teacher at Sacred Heart Catholic School and at the Special Education School in the Monticello School System. 

     Dolores married Loras Kremer June 18, 1949 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The couple purchased Harms Way Truckline in 1965. They operated the business until 1989. Dolores was the bookkeeper for the business. Loras would precede her in death Feb. 1995.

     Dolores was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was a lifetime member of the Our Lady of Fatima Study Club and was the Parish Council Secretary for over 25 years, and was a Cub Scout den mother. She also belonged to the Parish Guild and helped on the funeral lunch committee. When she was not busy at church she was an avid Hawkeye Fan and an extremely wonderful cook and loved to work in her flower and vegetable gardens.
