Dairy Banquet features royalty, awards, music


The Jones County Dairy Producers held their annual awards banquet on Saturday, Feb. 9. Royalty was crowned for 2019. Five production awards were handed out during the dairy banquet: Ashley Moyer with CoonRidge Holsteins; Reagan, Lilly, and Matt Stoll with Stoll Farms, Inc.; Matt McNamara with M&M Dairy; and Abby, Kaylee and Luke Fairbanks with Fairbanks Family Farm. Not pictured is Kevin Steiner.

Veterinarian Dr. Tom Lee (left) was presented with the Friend of the Dairyman Award during the banquet. Honoring Lee is Jones County Dairy Committee member Garry Zumbach.

The Golden Butter Knife Award went to Kathleen Robinson with The Hop at Canton. Presenting the award is Jones County Dairy Committee member Don Eilers.

Providing the musical entertainment during the Jones County Dairy Banquet was dynamic duo “Nutsy & Lori” (Lori Gravel and Jim Leick.

     A meal, the naming of royalty, awards and entertainment were all part of the Jones County Dairy Banquet Saturday, Feb. 9 at the Berndes Center in Monticello.

     Jones County royalty for 2018 were recognized, including Jones County Dairy Princess Gabby Gadient, Little Miss Squirt Reagan Stoll, and Little Sir Dairyman Dalton Ricklefs. Ashlynn Sparks and Gabrielle Steiner were also candidates for Dairy Princess. Also on hand was Jessica Schmitt, the 2018-19 Iowa Dairy Princess.

     Dairy producers were honored for having herds with production above state averages. Among those recognized, by breed, were as follows: Brown Swiss – Doug and Jodi Fairbanks, M&M Dairy; Holstein – Doug and Jodi Fairbanks, Coonridge Holsteins, Stoll Farms, Inc., M&M Dairy, and Kevin Steiner; Jersey – M&M Dairy, Doug and Jodi Fairbanks.

     The Golden Butter Knife Award went to Kathleen Robinson with The Hop in Canton. The Friend of the Dairyman Award was presented to veterinarian Dr. Tom Lee.

     Dinner was provided by Marilyn’s Catering and the Jones County Cattlemen. Brian Lubben provided an invocation, Justin Steward conducted a live auction and Robert Stoll gave the welcome and introductions.

     Entertainment was provided by Nutsy & Lori.
