The Jones County Board of Supervisors approved a contract with Jim Schroeder Construction for a bridge replacement project on 140th Avenue in Jackson Township.

During the Dec. 4 meeting, which was held at the County Engineer’s Office on Highway 64, the board electronically signed off on the $477,000 contract. Schroeder was the lowest bidder among five. The project had an engineer’s estimate of $550,000.

“The two lowest bids were pretty tight,” shared County Engineer Derek Snead. “We had some good interest and good prices in this project.”

The bridge replacement project also includes some work on a portion of Madison Road.

This is Jones County’s first SWAP project, with $47,000 used as local funding and $430,000 as SWAP funding.

The late start date for the bridge replacement project is June 2019.

In other county business:

The board approved various change orders related to the Wapsipinicon Trail Project. There was a total of $1,200 in deductions and $8,644 in additional increases.

     • The board suspended the first and second considerations and approved the 2018 Ordinance Codification. This action approves a summary of county ordinances that were approved during the year.
