Conservation scholarships to be offered

Conservation Districts of Iowa (CDI) is sponsoring the conservation and agriculture scholarship program again in 2018.

The scholarships are offered to Iowa high school seniors for their first year of education on the college level pursuing programs of study in any field of agriculture or natural resources. While this is a wide field and many studies qualify, preference will be given to students pursuing programs of study in conservation. Three scholarships will be awarded on the state level in the amounts of $4,000, $3,000, and $2,000. Regional winners not winning at the state-level will each receive $600.

Applications are to be submitted to your local soil and water conservation district office in the county in which the student lives no later than Feb. 16, 2018. The Jones Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) Commissioners will select one application for Jones County and forward on to the next level of competition. The applicant chosen will be awarded the Jones SWCD $400 scholarship, which is made possible by donations to the Jones SWCD’s endowment fund.

The scholarship application is available online at http://cdiowa.org/ or contact the Jones SWCD at 319-462-3196, ext. 3. Be sure to fill out the 2018 application, as application forms from previous years will not be accepted.

The applications are judged based on the following criteria: 20 points for involvement, leadership and character, 20 points for career, 30 points for scholastic achievement, and 30 points for conservation message.
