Chimney fire

The Monticello Fire Department responded to a chimney fire call around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28, to 212 S. Cedar St. They were assisted by the Monticello Police Department. According to Fire Chief Don McCarthy, by the time the fire department arrived, the officer put out the fire with a fire extinguisher. The MFD remained on scene for about 15 minutes to assess the situation. McCarthy said there was very little smoke damage in the house. No injuries were reported. (Photo by Mark Spensley)
